Ethically Sourced Coffee

Trade is 'unfair' when farmers receive low income and have poor working conditions while the companies that sell their products make large amounts of money from them.

We source all our coffee from ethical sources that ensure good growing, selling, pricing and farming practices.

Supporting farmers to improve the amount of crop they produce and its quality are important for sustainable livelihoods. It means farmers can earn more from what they produce to become more economically stable and more reliable suppliers.

As a coffee roaster in Canada, the choice to use ethically sourced coffee is an easy one.  The difference in cost for this choice compared to the difference it makes in the lives of those who produce these amazing coffees is no comparison at all.

There are many great programs from which to source Fairly traded coffee these days. Some are more well known than others, but here at Canyon Creek Coffee we only use suppliers who take great care in sourcing by ethical means.

A noteworthy program of which we are a participant is Cafe Feminino.

To participate, Café Femenino cooperatives must provide their women farmers with access to a host of political and economic benefits, including:

  • LEGAL RIGHTS TO THE LAND ON WHICH THEY FARM

  • LEADERSHIP POSITIONS WITHIN THE COOPERATIVES

  • FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS DECISION-MAKING POWER

  • DIRECT PAYMENT FOR THEIR COFFEE, INCLUDING A CAFÉ FEMENINO PREMIUM
